 One appeal of the island is the small population. Only about 7000 locals, mostly Caucasians of French and Swedish ancestry, live on the island.  Gustavia, the island’s capital is a quite little village with a quaint harbor that has luxury yachts and small boats. The appeal of the island can also be attributed to the warm and predictable weather. Trade winds blow refreshing breeze through the island throughout the year. The warm weather on the island attracts celebrities and millionaires during the winter season.

 There are few hotels in the island so travelers usually book accommodations months in advance. Many of the hotels are located on beachfront properties but since these hotels also have very little rooms, the beaches do not get too crowded. Some of the popular beaches are: Flammands, St. Jeans and Grand-Cul-de-Sac. There are also plenty of undeveloped, pristine beaches on the island. The Colombier beach located on the western part of the island is only accessible by boat or a hike through cliffs. Although the island is small, it has 22 of the beautiful beaches in the world.

 The island is a great place to admire the wonders of nature. One can go snorkeling and diving to experience the wealth of the marine life in the island. There are lobsters, sharks, green sea turtles in the oceans surrounding the island.
