Anguilla Shopping Print E-mail

Shoppers have a place in Anguilla. The island is rich of authentic handcrafts, arts, and other stuff that are “want to buy” by many travelers.  Anguillan handcrafts are very aesthetic; a spidery lace design is unique in their handcrafted masterpieces.  Common handcrafts in Anguilla are tablecloths and bedspreads, which are made from stripped cornhusks and sisal rope. Anguillan arts and crafts are very famous on neighboring islands and these handcrafts are sold outside Anguilla but at higher price. Schooners, pond boats, wooden dolls, and gifts made of shells can also be bought on shops. Anguilla Arts & Crafts, The Valley (tel. 264/497-2200), next door to the library, is one of the best outlets for island handcrafts and art: painted woodcarvings, pottery, ceramics, textiles, and primitive art.

Luxurious jewelry, sportswear, and casual beachwear, elegant evening dresses, gifts, designer bathing suits, and Kaminsky Rafia hats, are some of the items that are sold in the most famous and fashionable boutique in Anguilla, Boutique at Malliouhana, in the Malliouhana Hotel, Meads Bay (tel. 264/497-6111).

Art Galleries in Anguilla are one of the “must see” shops, as they keep some of the enchanting masterpieces of both international and local artists. One of the art gallery in Anguilla exhibits paintings by Anguillan and Caribbean artists. The Devonish Art Gallery, George Hill Landing Mall (tel. 264/497-2949), also features the work of the renowned painter, Courtney Devonish.

Another art gallery in Anguilla, houses artworks made with various medium, such as pastel colored paintings, oil paintings, and prints.  International artifacts, textiles, and jewelry are some of the items you will see at New World Gallery, Old Factory Plaza, The Valley (tel. 264/497-5950).

Caribbean art collectors would be happy to visit the work of Cheddie Richardson, an Anguillan local that have learned the art of carving by his own and created several unique masterpieces. His work of art are showcased in Devonish Art Gallery, The Cove (tel. 264/497-6027), near the Sonesta Beach Resort.

The Valley Post Office (tel. 264/497-2528), would be the right destination of stamp collectors.
